Warranty Manager

Role Overview

Based in Saltash, Cornwall, and reporting to the General Manager this role will be fully responsible for managing the Silverfish Warranty & Technical Team consisting of two technicians and a customer advisor across all our brands.

The successful candidate will need previous experience of managing technical or warranty support and customer services within a similar environment. The ideal candidate will be an experienced manager, able to display an innovative and creative approach and capable of developing constructive working relationships with suppliers to ensure our technical customer service is second to none.


Duties and Responsibilities

The specific duties will include, though not be limited to:

  • Ensure a proactive approach in identifying areas to improve technical and customer service levels.
  • Ensure that the Warranty Team have the appropriate infrastructure and training to perform quality technical & customer service.
  • Support dealers and suppliers in identifying relevant issues, developing subsequent action plans and monitor execution.
  • Work closely with other team members in solving problems and/or escalating technical issues to suppliers or manufacturers.
  • Produce reports as required for senior management and for departmental performance monitoring.
  • Manage departmental performance against agreed targets and budgets, and within policies and standards.
  • Identify and manage exposure to reputational and financial business risks associated to warranty management.
  • Record, analyse, report and administer activities according to systems and process requirements.
  • Review, establish and manage internal procedures to improve performance.
  • Manage warranty replacement stock or credits and provide monthly reporting to brands as required.
  • Manage the processing of ex-magazine review bikes in preparation for sale.
  • Work closely with the Financial Controller to ensure all warranty claims submitted to suppliers are reimbursed in a timely fashion.
  • Manage and monitor procedures to ensure all claims submitted adhere to supplier policies.
  • Support the Warranty Team to ensure workable solutions for the customer regarding current or potential product compatibility issues.
  • Ensure all technical support material provided by Silverfish is widely available, up-to-date and is provided in the most useful formats e.g. web / videos etc.
  • Manage the workshop and ensure all servicing / repairs and warranty work is undertaken in a timely and reliable manner.

Skills and experience required

The successful candidate must have proven experience of the following:

  • Excellent computer skills in MS Office, particularly in MS Excel.
  • Numerate and analytical, capable of understanding and presenting data in a simple to understand way.
  • Experience with using ERP systems.
  • Excellent written and oral skills in English.
  • Good interpersonal skills.
  • Effective time management skills.
  • In depth knowledge of after sales operations and processes.
  • Experience of managing/supervising staff and experience of managing appraisals.
  • Significant experience of working within a similar role.
  • Ability to demonstrate a commitment to customer service in a technical arena.
  • Flexible approach with the ability to multi task and use initiative.
  • Good knowledge of the products distributed by Silverfish.

Terms and Conditions

  • Salary: £30 - £35k subject to experience
  • Hours (based on core office hours of 35.75 per week although appointee would be expected to work outside these hours where necessary):
    • Monday - Thursday: 0915-1730hrs
    • Friday: 0915-1430hrs
  • Annual leave: 22 days (paid) plus bank holidays extending with length of service

Internal Sales


Job Purpose

This role will be one of the key links between Silverfish and our customers and will involve all aspects of sales and general customer support. The role will be office based and will be responsible for taking and processing sales orders, managing existing sales accounts and also making direct sales calls to our dealer network. The successful candidate will be a capable salesperson but also capable of working to robust processes and procedures.

Due to the technical nature of our product lines the successful candidate will have a strong interest in bikes and be knowledgeable about our brands and product lines.


Duties and Responsibilities

The specific duties of this post will include, though not be limited to:

  • Ensuring our IBDs are supported and get a first class service when they contact the Silverfish office.
  • Take and process telephone orders whilst maximising opportunities to upsell and add value wherever possible.
  • Make regular telephone contact with our dealer base in an attempt to try to sell targeted product lines / special deals – increase dealer turnover.
  • Work with the Sales Manager to develop sales initiatives and put these into operation.
  • Work closely with our 3 area sales reps and ensure key information is provided and any sales leads are followed up effectively.
  • Contribute to website content to ensure dealers have all of the information they require at their fingertips.
  • Manage customer accounts and ensure backorders are processed in a timely and effective way.
  • Undertake any sales administration required to ensure the smooth running of the Silverfish sales office.
  • Ensure dealers are kept abreast of key information regarding product availability or potential delays.
  • Undertake annual dealer calls as required to ensure our records are kept up to date and customers are offered accurate information.
  • Attend trade shows as and when required to ensure Silverfish brands and products are well represented.

Skills and Experience

Essential

  • Experience of working in the bike industry, particularly sales focussed experience.
  • A sound understanding of the UK bike industry, in particular an understanding of independent bike dealers and bike parts.
  • A keen interest in bikes and an ability to demonstrate a clear understanding of our brands and products.
  • Sound knowledge of bike parts and a well-developed grasp of technical issues relating to bike components.
  • Experience of selling and generating sales over the telephone.
  • Highly organised and must be a self starter with a proven ability to multi task, use their own initiative to solve problems.
  • Experience of working in a fast paced environment where attention to detail is critical.
  • Excellent communication skills, particularly in writing or on the phone.
  • Experience of using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and inventory management systems.
