Onza Greina 26x2.25

The Swiss made Onza’s come in wide, soft, reasonably aggressive and lightweight. When it arrived it simply shouted to be beaten hard and fast through shit, muck, rock and root. This tyre certainly sits in the transition between trail and downhill yet compared to the many kilo–plus DH offerings the Greina (at 690g) is light and made from a really supple bit of Swiss designed rubber.

Unlike some of the tyres on test the Greina is certainly ‘mud conditions only’ and struggles on bigger rides, therefore we see this tyre as pretty specific – uplifts and competitive enduro is where the Onza sits best. And it will do a grand job, offering a good amount of traction on angular rock, the ever–present uncomfortable root traverse. Support at speed is what the Onza does well and comes into its own at higher speed than say the Trailraker, it also offers more tyre depth. I’d like to see slightly more raised rubber on the edges, as the break–away point came slightly sooner than where it should be.

Suitability:160mm bikes upwards where the speed gains from hitting rock and root outweight the pure mud element.

Price: £44.95
