Ed Oxley over at MTB Skills and guiding services Great Rock have just sent us over a killer review on the two EVOC back packs he has been using this winter.

Professional trail guide and coach Ed has been using the EVOC Freeride Trail M.L and Backpack C.C packs this winter on all of his guiding duties and skills schools. When you spend as much time on a bike as Ed you quickly realsise that you need to have kit you can rely on and he can do just that with EVOC.

Over to Ed

I have been using two new packs from the German brand EVOC. These backpacks proudly state that they are 'Engineered in Germany' and have a real feeling of... quality and durability. I have opted for the EVOC Backpack 16 l a lightweight pack that I'm using for night rides and solo blasts when I don't need to carry so much gear . The other pack I'm using is the EVOC Freeride Trail ML a full on All Mountain pack with a capacity of 20 litres which also features a full C.E rated spine protector which has the option to be detached and worn on its own. There are loads of places to secure pads and helmet on the outside as well as plenty of practical details inside. I'll use this pack when I'm working with groups on skills courses and when I'm off on big adventures. The colours I think you'll agree are some of the best you've ever seen and this is a real plus point for the EVOC kit overall. Both packs have been performing great out on the trail and I love the stability they offer. The waist and shoulder harness is properly made and the packs are slim and long like alpine climbing packs, (a big plus) which stops everything dropping to the bottom and swinging around. The packs have a really good solid build too like proper mountain kit should have. All of this makes a great change from the way some other packs I have used are built. Using thin straps and trying to be too light weight is no good for the demands of mountain biking. The colours are obviously a big plus for style reasons but also for safety and on photo shoots! The packs have been getting a lot of interest from people, both on my courses and generally out and about on the trail. I'll keep you updated on my progress with the packs, but so far they have been just great. Keep your eyes on Great-Rock.tv for a video review of the packs, which is coming soon
