When it comes to carbon fibre manufacturing Race Face leave the competition in their (carbon) dust. Masterminded and created in their own in-house carbon fibre facility 2014 sees them release the lightest production carbon crankset on the planet. They simply call it the Next SL and we wanted to know more.

The Next SL is a crank so technologically advanced it doesn't just change the game, it takes the ball and runs off to a whole new park to play with it on its own. Proudly designed, tested and manufactured in-house at the Race Face Vancouver facility using US sourced carbon fibre and aluminium the Next SL combines proven Race Face proprietary hollow arm technology with their new 'Cinch' interface to create a crank which is versatile, ultra-lightweight and can take on even the roughest trails. With a 28T singlering set-up the cranks tip the scales at only 425grams (W/O BB) which has left the competition scratching their heads wondering how they can get near this unbelievable weight.

Designed to be at home on every bike from world cup cross country through to trail and enduro machines the Next SL is a masterpiece of design and construction packaged with super model good looks. Could the Next SL be the most versatile crankset you will ever own?

Construction

Hollow carbon fibre arms are lightweight and ultra-stiff and thanks to Race Face's superior carbon fibre knowledge there's no need for an internal alloy skeleton or extra material needed. The arms are then mounted to a 30mm (24mm on current Race Face cranksets) aluminium spindle constructed from an alloy which only recently became available for commercial use and is 20% stronger than 7050.

Cinch

The new Race Face 'Cinch' system gives the Next SL true flexibility and versatility. The mounting system lets riders choose between a wide array of set-up possibilities from a direct mounted Narrow/Wide single ring through to a more traditional spider and a double/ triple ring combination. Easily removable and changeable via a drive-side lock-ring (which uses an ISIS BB tool) the Next SL can be tailored to suit your ride.
