MBR gave the Venture a positive review let down by a set of miss behaving forks, which featured on another bike and preformed well so possibly a bad egg in the bunch. Let's see what they had to say

The Ventura X-Sport is the first Mondraker ever to feature in our Dirty Dozen test, and the X in the name denotes a more relaxed trail riding bias. Built around a 120mm travel for, the Spanish company has clearly done its homework on the geometry, and as a result the bike handles well. So good in fact, that it was actually our favourite to ride on smooth trails as it feels confident and surefooted.

Despite this obvious potential, another underperforming suspension fork, this time the SR Suntour XCM-V3, held the Ventura back on real off-road terrain. Basically it stopped working properly as soon as we rode over any major bumps, with the damping 'chocking' on sharp or fast hits. It was almost as if the hydraulic lockout was kicking in of its own accord. This meant that over rough ground, the suspension would stop abruptly and bounce straight back up at you. Far from ideal when you need to keep the front wheel steady to navigate the fast, rough tracks that the riding position on the Mondraker has you instinctively seeking out.

The Mondraker's parts were largely well thought out, with nicely sized handlebars, a comfy seat and excellent WTB tyres. The Cheap Shimano Acera cranks, with non-replicable chainrings, and a long-since superseded bottom bracket dsign were easily the word on test, though.

If Mondraker or SR Suntour could sort out the performance of the fork to match the one found on the Specialized Hardrock, then the sweet-handling Ventura X-Sport could be a serious contender in next year's Dirty Dozen.
