Yeti Racing UK riders Scott Beaumont and Dave Richardson put the Easter eggs on hold for the weekend and headed to round 1 of the 2013 British 4X series at Afan in South Wales. The team were looking to kick off their season in style and get some points on the board. Scott reports on how the weekend went for the team here,

Words: Scott Beaumont

Well after what seems to be the quickest winter ever, Yeti Racing UK fired back into business at the weekend for round 1 of the 2013 Schwalbe British 4X Series in Afan, South Wales.

The sun was shining all weekend and the track was in the best condition it has ever been in. The track at Afan is one of the best 4X tracks in the whole of the UK with a large rock section a corkscrew bridge and a big 'pro' line of doubles. The track always makes for great racing and the weekend was no exception.

The qualification motos started at 12.00 on Sunday. Both Dave and myself were feeling great after practice and looking forward to getting the season underway. With Dave racing in the Senior category and me in the Elite's the competition is always fierce and at round 1 it'is always exciting to see who has been doing the work throughout winter. As it turns out that the Yeti Racing UK riders had been doing their homework and both riders went unbeaten and were looking really fast heading into the finals.

Dave opted for gate one in his quarter final and made a great start before a small bobble over the first jump put the others level. A few bumps and Dave found himself in 3rd on the second straight but with some smart riding and a couple of fantastic passes he pulled into the lead and ended up winning the race by a good distance. In the semi-final, Dave opted for gate number one again and this time made no mistakes, winning the race from start to finish. So it was final time. With probably his best gate of the day, Dave went into turn 1 leading in the final and as the others bumped Dave was gone and he took the win.

With win one in the books for the team in 2013 Scott needed to match it??

My run to the final was perfect and I progressed to the final winning all of my motos on route. In the final I also opted for gate one and lined up next to Lewis Lacey, Nathan Parsons and Isaac Mundy. From the drop of the gate I absolutely nailed it and by the first turn had a good lead taking the win to make it a Perfect weekend for Yeti Racing UK. Unbeaten and looking really good for the season.

The team is now looking forward to a trip to Cornwall for the round 2 of the series.
