Mondraker Racing UK laid down some great racing at the first round of the Fully Sussed south west series in Redruth Cornwall with a double podium in the Expert/Elite race and a top 10 in Vet.

Mondraker UK's 2013 race season is slowly gaining momentum and the team were looking to build upon their form at the opening round of the South West series in Redruth Cornwall. The course used was essentially a test race for next round of the British Mountain Bike Series so the desire to push the limits was a little bit higher than in previous meetings at a regional series. As such the all races saw a slight swelling in attendance meaning a good race was set for all.

The course couldn't have been any more different to the teams last race at Sherwood Pines with a bone dry course and over 150meters of climbing per lap compared to Sherwoods puny 70meters. The lap started with a flat out descent down a trail centre type carved trail which contained a good couple of shoots and jumps to pump/jump through. Following this saw a steep rocky drag to the next descent which was a little bit slower but more technical in manor and contained 2 A/B rout sections. At the bottom of this descent the course wound its way back to the start with a slight de-tour through the woods for some lumpy powering out the saddle singletrack. Total distance was 3.4miles making it a 15-18min timed lap.

Expert/Elite Race - Hurlock/Hodge

Hurlock and Hodge found themselves on the front row of the Elite/Expert race among a good scattering of seasoned racers. Hurlocks race started great hammering it from the whistle and entering the first descent in 3rd before being able to open up the throttle on the climb to the second descent and take the lead. From here he managed to keep pushing the gas and finished the race a good 2 minutes clear of 2nd. Hodge's race started sensitively after taking a mighty crash in practice (20mph into a pile of rocks) he found the he was a passenger on his bike for the descents so had to rely on his flyweight Podium Pro bike and leg horsepower to attack on the climbs. After a great race of leaving the start arena way down the field he managed to pick his way through an array of racers before breaking free of 4th place and trying to target 2nd sadly his attack was too little too late and had to settle for 3rd rounding off a great morning of racing for Mondraker UK.
