MBUK's sister magazine What Mountain Bike tested the Race Face NEXT carbon fibre Flat Wide bar against the competition and it came out on top scoring 4 out of 5 stars. With riders using larger wheels and longer travel forks the desire to lower bar high is ever increasing and at 180 grams the NEXT Flat Wide bars are one of the lightest, strongest and widest offerings available. Race Face NEXT Wide Flat Carbon Bars

The Canadian company's carbon fibre offering is the lightest on test at 180g and joint widest at 720mm. With a slight rise of 6.35mmm and the least amount of sweep of our trio at 8 degrees, we found they put us in a more attacking, elbows-out stance however.

The black magic material does an exceptional job of muting trail buzz and that lack of harshness means noticeably less fatigue. They aren't twangy or imprecise by any mean, and the reinforced anti-crush area around the clamp should go some way to easing carbon-phobic fears.

It has trim marks but we'd prefer more standard lines or grids on the clamp, as the dotted graphics are pretty but fairly useless when it comes to set-up.

5 out of 5 stars
