Review: Cyclist - 100% Aerocraft Sunglasses

The 100% Aerocraft sunglasses are the latest model from 100% and sit at the top of its range of cycling sunglasses. They feature 3DPlane Molded lenses, found in 100%’s goggles, for the first time in the brand’s cycling glasses. This technology means the lens folds in at the edges to improve protection and field of view, although that does cause some distortion.

The HiPER lens helps to improve contrast and better highlight the road and any imperfections or obstacles. The Cat 2 lens also allows sufficient light transmission that it is effective in both brighter sunlight as well as low light conditions. The inclusion of a hard case and soft bag aid value, however the price is still high and a spare lens or guarantee is lacking.

The 100% Aerocraft sunglasses feature a TR90 frame, often used for cycling sunglasses, which is slightly flexible to protect against shattering on impact. The nosepiece and arm grips are made of Ultra-grip rubber. 100% says it is hydrophilic to provide grip even in the presence of sweat. The temple tips are flexible so as to offer some adjustability in the fit. They have a frameless design with contact to the lens only occurring at the arms of the glasses, designed to offer a better field of view.

The lens is made of impact-resistant and shatterproof polycarbonate, but features what 100% calls 3DPlane Molded Lens technology. This means that rather than just a cylindrical shield cut-out for the lens, there are 3D elements to the lens, with tapered angles on the edges as well as an extended section at the nose.

This has been designed to enhance the field of view and allow the lens to integrate seamlessly to the frame. The lens itself is the 100% HiPER lens, which features enhanced contrasting to better pick up changes and obstacles in the road. The lens also features hydrophobic, oleophobic and scratch-resistant coatings to repel dirt, oil and water and ensure the lens stays up to scratch long term.

The 100% Aerocraft glasses have a distinctive look and feature HiPER lenses with impressive clarity, resistance to glare, and great hydro and oleophobic properties. The 3D lens which blends beautifully into the frame offers enhanced protection but comes at the cost of some visual distortion at the edges.

The inclusion of a hard case and soft pouch boost value, but at this price a clear lens or guarantees included on the lens might be expected.
