Our Commitment to Net Zero
As people who love the outdoors and run a business that helps others create adventures in nature, we’re deeply aware of the pressures on the environment and the growing threat of climate change. While cycling has a ‘green’ image, we know that our industry - and our own operations - have an impact, and it’s on us to be part of the solution.
That’s why we’re stepping up and fast-tracking our journey to Net Zero.
Our Pledge
We have pledged our commitment to the following:
- Hitting Net Zero in line with the Science Based Targets set by the UNFCCC - no later than 2050 - with a goal to cut emissions by 50% by 2030.
- Going further: Silverfish is aiming to reach Net Zero by 2040 and, thanks to steps we’ve already taken, we’re on track by already achieving a 12.7% reduction in emissions from our 2023 carbon review.
- Setting realistic short- and long-term targets that keep us on track.
- Regularly reporting our total Greenhouse Gas emissions and including our performance in the annual UNFCCC reporting.
We’re excited to be taking these steps, but we know this is a long journey—it won’t happen overnight. That said, we believe that every action counts, and by making changes now, we can take big steps forward in reducing our carbon footprint.
We’ll keep this page updated with our progress—the good, the bad, and everything in between—so we can all learn and move forward together on this crucial mission.
Here’s a quick look at what we’ve been up to so far:
- Sustainability in Action: We’ve made the switch to paper tape, recycled/reused boxes, and opted for more sustainable packaging to reduce plastic waste.
- Sustainability Charter: Our Sustainability Charter is all set! Check it out!
- Rubber Waste: We’ve teamed up with Velorim.co.uk to ensure no rubber from our tyres and inner tubes ends up in landfills.
- Plans for 2025: We’re working on boosting sustainability knowledge across the team, tackling Scope 1 and 2 action plans, and starting to map out Scope 3.
- Employee Perks: Our Cycle to Work scheme is up and running, and it's getting great use!
- Green Energy: All our energy contracts are now fully green and renewable.
- Energy Efficiency: We’ve bumped up the temperature in our server room to save energy, looked into solar power, and installed sensor lighting where we can.
- Eco-Friendly Suppliers: We even swapped our toilet roll supplier for something more sustainable!
- Tree Planting: By using Ecosia for our web searches, we’ve helped plant hundreds of trees!
