What’s your name?
Edd Irving-Leslie
How long have you been with Silverfish?
Will be 2 years in July.
What is your job?
I’m part of the Internal sales team, I’m one of the guys on the other end of the phone and live chat, and the go to Moto guy in the office.
What type of riding do you do?
Fast descents and big jumps in the summer are the one! I hate the climb and the climb is only worth it if the descent is something special but get me on an uplift any day! I also hate being cold and wet, so I tend to hibernate during winter. I am super lazy but stoked to ride some steep, fast descents, big drops, big gaps and finding my own way down. So long as I don’t have to pedal a bunch and wash my bike off after.
What is your favourite trail?
I don’t think I have one, it’s pretty dependent on my mood. A good ride out with mates is the vibe though, throw in some big jumps and we are laughing!
What made you pick this bike?
“Master of the Gnariverse” need I say more?
Have you changed/added anything to your bike to suit your riding style?
My whole bike is pretty different to “the norm”. First thing everyone comments on is how high my bars are, I think they are sick and suit my wild style. I don’t think there is any advantage/disadvantage to them, they just look cool as hell! They are on the narrow side too, so if I fancy giving them a throw, they don’t catch my legs on the way round. The slip on “BMX” grips top off the feel, they are comfy and give me a nice close to the bar feel.
The bike is setup super stiff as well, I think for my weight I should be running a 350lbs spring, but I like the rock-hard feel and feedback it gives me on the descents as well as the speed I can generate from it. With it so stiff I can feel when I am using poor lines and hitting big holes etc, so helps me be a bit more creative on the way down and be smoother, as well as being able to take a big hit.
I have also set the bike up mullet, so we have business up front and party out back. For me it suits what I want the bike to do. The front ploughs through everything while the rear is still easily manoeuvrable, and it keeps the bike playful.
I run my tyre pressures pretty firm as well. I tend to ding my rims quite often, so I like to keep them nice and firm and not have to worry about the added weight of inserts. Also, with them pumped up nice and hard, they roll super-fast! I also don’t have to worry about burping the tyre off the rim either.
I am not overly picky with my lever positioning or anything though. With that sort of thing, it is usually other people that point out when something is off. I was running bent cranks for best part of 4 months without noticing! I guess the only thing for me is I run the levers as far out as they will go, it gives me an early bite point and I don’t like having my finger bent when on the lever, I like it to be outstretched. I also run a long rear brake hose, as well as the front brake hose through the steerer, and wireless shifter and dropper so that I can spin the bars.
It is 100% a wild set up, but its super rad! It is a summary of who I am really. My fashion choices are pretty wild, my style is pretty loose, and my bike perfectly complements them both.
